Fundisa for Change Newsletter Updates
The KIC-CCE Fundisa for Change teacher training kicked off in April 2021, focusing on strengthening the teaching of climate change in Natural Sciences (Grade 7 – 9) and Geography (Grade 10 – 12) The university of Venda in Limpopo implemented the 5-day training from the 26th – 30th April 2021 with teachers from Vhembe West District.
40 Natural Sciences and Geography teachers participated in the training, and throughout the sessions they were engaging with the subject content and outdoor activities to explore ideas for their curriculum-activated climate change projects. The University of Venda was supported by partners from the district Department of Education, Department of Fisheries, Forestry and the Environment, SANBI, VVOB and WESSA.

Rhodes University kick-started their online training for teachers in Nelson Mandela Bay District from the 24th -29th April 2021. 21 teachers participated in the training.
The KIC-CCE project provided tablets to all teachers participating in the project, and Nelson Mandela Bay district was the first cohort to receive theirs.

Rhodes University teacher training
In KZN, our 2 partners universities spearheaded the training. University of KwaZulu Natal trained 36 teachers from Pinetown District, and University of Zululand 36 teachers from King Cetshwayo District. Partners from DFFE, VVOB, CASME, KZN EDTEA, and the district Department of Education also attended the sessions.
